Who we are
A Builder's Story, Three Generations in the Making
Construction has been part of David Smith’s life for as long as he can remember. As a third-generation builder, he grew up learning the value of hard work, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way, starting with early memories salvaging old-growth lumber alongside his father in Northern California’s Mendocino region. After moving to the Hudson Valley over 20 years ago, David built his skills across multiple trades: starting in excavation at 18, then expanding into carpentry and residential construction, where he found his true passion for building homes.
Along the way, David worked alongside licensed plumbing and HVAC professionals, giving him a solid understanding of the systems that make a home actually function, and earned his New York real estate license, which gave him a homeowner’s-eye view of value and quality. For several years, he worked under one of the Hudson Valley’s premier framing contractors, sharpening his skills on everything from custom homes to complex structural framing, an experience that gave him the confidence to launch Home Smith Builders.
Today, David’s focus is on delivering exceptional craftsmanship across every phase of residential construction, from excavation and foundations to framing, decks, additions, siding, windows, doors, and complete custom home projects. At Home Smith Builders, the goal isn’t simply to build structures. It’s to build homes, relationships, and a reputation homeowners can rely on for years to come.
